Sharmaine Heng is currently the Pro Bono and Social Impact Director at Nixon Peabody LLP based in the firm's Washington DC office.
Sharmaine is a respected leader in the legal community, known for her collaborative approach and deep commitment to advancing access to justice. She currently serves as Nixon Peabody’s inaugural Pro Bono and Social Impact Director, overseeing the firm’s pro bono work, charitable giving, board memberships and affiliations, and volunteer activity.
As the first person to hold this newly created position, Sharmaine is responsible for shaping and executing the firm’s social impact strategy. Her work focuses on connecting attorneys with pro bono work that aligns with their skills, interests, and passions; building and strengthening relationships with clients and external pro bono organizations; and developing and tracking metrics to measure the reach and impact of the firm’s pro bono and social impact efforts.
With over a decade of experience in law firm pro bono program management, Sharmaine draws on her own experience as a practicing attorney and has a clear understanding of how the private bar can make a meaningful difference in our communities.
She earned her J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School and her B.A. from Columbia University. She is a member of the Association of Pro Bono Counsel and Washington Council of Lawyers, and serves on the board of the Friends of the Superior Court for the District of Columbia.
