About me
Kate Gaffney is the Director of Pro Bono at Atlanta Legal Aid Society. Kate develops, manages and oversees the many ways Atlanta Legal Aid Society works with private attorneys, law students and volunteers to help further the organization’s mission of helping low-income people meet basic needs, removing barriers to justice through civil legal assistance. Prior to her current role, Kate worked with Atlanta Legal Aid’s Kinship Care Project, representing low-income caregivers raising children in the place of deceased or otherwise absent parents. For nearly 10 years, Kate directed the Temporary Protective Order Project in Legal Aid’s Cobb County office, connecting survivors with pro bono attorneys for representation at their court hearings. Kate previously co-taught an experiential course at Georgia State University College of Law. Prior to joining Atlanta Legal Aid in 2008, Kate was an associate attorney at a boutique family law firm in Boston, following a clerkship with the Massachusetts Probate and Family Court. Kate is a graduate of Boston College Law School and the University of Notre Dame.
