About me
Ashley Campbell is the CEO of Legal Aid of North Carolina, where she leads a statewide organization advancing access to justice for more than two million income-eligible North Carolinians each year. She began her legal career at Legal Aid in 2003 as a staff attorney, representing tenants facing housing instability and survivors of domestic violence.
As CEO, Ashley has guided the organization through one of the most challenging periods in its history. In 2025, Legal Aid of North Carolina faced the sudden loss of more than $10 million in funding. Ashley led the organization through rapid restructuring and difficult decisions while raising more than $4 million in new philanthropic support to stabilize core services. Throughout this period, she maintained strong confidence and partnership from the North Carolina bar, funders, and key external stakeholders.
Ashley also launched Legal Aid of North Carolina’s Innovation Lab to national recognition. The Lab focuses on using technology and AI to close the access-to-justice gap by building tools that are people-centered, scalable, and responsive to real-world barriers. Under her leadership, Legal Aid has expanded its reach through innovative service models while remaining grounded in its mission and values.
Ashley is known for steady, transparent leadership during crisis, a deep commitment to staff and clients, and a belief that legal aid organizations must evolve to meet the moment. Her work sits at the intersection of justice, technology, and systems change, with a focus on building durable institutions that can serve communities through uncertainty and beyond.
