As McGuireWoods’ pro bono director, counsel Angie Zimmern expands the firm’s commitment to developing and sustaining pro bono programs recognized nationally for innovation and impact.
Angie leads the firm’s most successful pro bono initiatives, including Charlotte Triage, a groundbreaking and award-winning collaboration she co-chairs with leaders of corporate law departments to expand legal services for low-income Charlotte residents.
Angie practiced securities and business litigation before transitioning to a full-time pro bono position with McGuireWoods. While earning her law degree from the University of North Carolina School of Law, she was an extern to Judge W. Earl Britt of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina.
In 2018, Angie received a Distinguished Pro Bono Service Award for lifetime achievement from the Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacy, the Council for Children’s Rights and Legal Aid of North Carolina. In 2020, the Charlotte Business Journal recognized her with a Women in Business Achievement Award and North Carolina Lawyers Weekly named her a Leader in the Law. North Carolina Lawyers Weekly and The Mecklenburg Times honored Angie as one of their 50 Most Influential Women of 2023. Angie also earned the honor of Attorney of the Year in the 2025 Southeastern Legal Awards, presented by The Daily Report, an American Lawyer Media publication.
Angie serves on the board of the North Carolina Equal Access to Justice Commission Foundation, Pat’s Place Child Advocacy Center and the Foundation for the Mint Museum. She also co-chairs the NC Pro Bono Coordinators Network.
