About me
Nell Brimmer is the Executive Director of the Maine Volunteer Lawyers Project (VLP), a statewide nonprofit that partners with communities and the private bar to advance justice through pro bono representation. Each year, VLP engages hundreds of volunteers to address thousands of civil legal issues and strengthen equity in Maine’s legal system. A public interest attorney and pro bono professional, Nell previously served as the U.S. Manager of Global Pro Bono at the Center for Reproductive Rights, where she led the domestic portion of their global program. In that role, she expanded the Center’s network of law firms and local counsel, advanced holistic support for litigation clients, and placed national pro bono clearinghouse matters safeguarding access and upholding reproductive rights throughout the country. Prior to her work with the Center, Nell was Managing Attorney at both Legal Services Alabama and at Disability Rights Maine, where she represented clients in civil legal matters, built statewide pro bono alliances, and launched fellowships and clerkships. She began her career at King & Spalding, where she developed a strong foundation in pro bono practice that would define the arc of her career. Nell holds a J.D. from John Marshall Law School, where she was a founding member of the Public Interest Law Society, and a B.A. with honors in Women’s Studies from Salem State University.
